WebP Converter for PNG, JPG and HEIC Images
Convert images to WebP for a faster website, or turn WebP back into JPG or PNG when another app needs it. Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG, process a whole batch, preview the result and download files individually or as a ZIP. Conversion happens in your browser.
How This WebP Converter Works
The converter decodes each image in your browser, draws it onto a canvas and saves it again in the format you choose: WebP, JPG or PNG. HEIC photos from iPhones are decoded first and can then be saved as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Different places need different image formats. Your website loads faster with WebP, an older booking system may only accept JPG, a designer may ask for PNG with a transparent background, and photos from an iPhone often arrive as HEIC files that Windows and many web forms cannot open. Converting one image at a time is slow, so this tool handles up to 30 at once and gives you a single ZIP at the end.
Every converted file keeps the original width and height. To make images smaller as well as changing their format, use our tool for reducing image file size, which adds target sizes and resizing.
Supported Conversions
| From | To WebP | To JPG | To PNG |
|---|---|---|---|
| PNG | Yes, keeps transparency | Yes, transparency filled with a colour | Yes |
| JPG / JPEG | Yes | Yes, re-saves at chosen quality | Yes |
| WebP | Yes, re-saves at chosen quality | Yes, transparency filled with a colour | Yes, keeps transparency |
| HEIC / HEIF | Yes, where the file can be decoded | Yes, where the file can be decoded | Yes, where the file can be decoded |
Animated WebP files are converted using their first frame only. HEIC support depends on the file variant and your browser, so the tool reports any file it cannot decode instead of producing a blank image.
Transparency and Background Colours
PNG and WebP can store transparent pixels; JPG cannot. When you convert a transparent logo or cut-out product image to JPG, those transparent areas must be filled with a solid colour. The tool checks each image when you add it, warns you if any have transparency, and lets you pick the background colour, which defaults to white.
For logos on websites, keep transparency by converting to WebP or PNG. Use JPG with a matching background only when the destination does not accept those formats.
Which Format to Use and When
WebP for your website
WebP is designed for the web. It usually gives smaller files than JPG or PNG at similar quality, which helps pages load faster and supports better Core Web Vitals. Most modern content management systems, including WordPress, accept WebP uploads. Our technical SEO specialists often start a speed project by moving heavy images to WebP.
JPG for compatibility
JPG works almost everywhere: email clients, office documents, printers, marketplaces and older upload forms. Convert WebP to JPG when someone cannot open your file.
PNG for graphics and editing
PNG is lossless and supports transparency, which makes it useful for logos, icons, diagrams, screenshots with text and files that will be edited again.
HEIC to JPG for sharing
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default to save storage. Converting them to JPG makes them easy to share, upload and open on Windows and Android.
Converting Images in a Batch
- Add images. Drag and drop or choose up to 30 PNG, JPG, WebP or HEIC files.
- Choose the output format. Pick WebP, JPG or PNG. Set the quality for WebP and JPG.
- Check warnings. If you are converting transparent images to JPG, choose a background colour.
- Convert and review. Compare before and after previews and file sizes.
- Download. Save files one at a time or all together as a ZIP.
Safety limits of 25 MB and 50 megapixels per image keep your browser responsive. They are not usage limits, so you can convert as many batches as you need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is WebP better than JPG for websites?
For most website images, yes. WebP usually produces smaller files than JPG at similar visual quality and also supports transparency, which JPG does not. All current major browsers display WebP. JPG is still the safer choice for email, documents and older software.
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Add your WebP files, choose JPG under Convert to, set the quality and press Convert images. If any WebP has transparent areas, pick a background colour, because JPG cannot store transparency. Then download each JPG or the whole batch as a ZIP.
Can I convert iPhone HEIC photos?
Yes, in most cases. Safari can usually read HEIC directly. In other browsers, the tool loads an open-source HEIC decoder only when you add a HEIC file. A few HEIC variants, such as some live photos, image sequences or files from newer cameras, may not decode; the tool will tell you if a file cannot be converted.
Will converting reduce image quality?
Converting to PNG is lossless, so nothing is lost from the decoded image. Converting to WebP or JPG uses lossy compression controlled by the quality slider; 80 to 90 percent is usually visually indistinguishable for photos. Converting a JPG to PNG will not restore detail that the JPG already lost, and will usually make the file bigger.
Why is my converted PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away detail the eye is unlikely to notice. Photos therefore become much larger as PNG. Use PNG for graphics, screenshots with text and images that need transparency, and use WebP or JPG for photos.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Images are decoded and re-encoded in your browser. They are not sent to ZTechzSolutions or stored. The only network requests are for the optional ZIP and HEIC libraries, which come from public CDNs and receive none of your images.
Does converting remove photo location data?
Yes. The converted file is created from the image pixels only, so EXIF metadata such as GPS location, camera model and capture date is not carried over.
